DOG SURFING SAN DIEGO

Hounds Hang 20 at the 7th Annual Loews Dog Surfing Competition at Dunes Park Beach in Imperial Beach, Calif., on Saturday, June 16, 2012. There are four heats in this competition: Small Dogs (40 pounds and under), Large Dogs (41 pounds and over), Tandem and the Ultimate Champion Round (first place winners of heats 1, 2 and 3). Each dog is given 10 minutes to catch waves and their score is determined by their top 2 waves. Waves are scored on confidence level, length of ride and overall ability to "grip and rip it". The winner of the Ultimate Champion Round will become the 2012 "poster dog" for the Loews Hotel. Entry fee is $50-55 and all profits goto the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The event drew over 50 competitive dogs and thousands of spectators from all over the country. In addition to the competitions this years event broke a Guinness Book of World Records for the most amount of dogs surfing on one board at one time (more than 10 dogs).
